Stepping Away – MHSAA Soccer Bids Farewell To The Accomplished Coach Mukhtar

The state’s high school coaching ranks is saying goodbye to a true great.
Prep soccer coaching legend Thaier Mukhtar retired this week after three decades of accolades and mentorship.
Mukhtar has spent the past six years heading the boys program on the pitch at Fraser. He stepped down as the Fraser girls coach back in the spring following 14 seasons at the helm.
While at Warren De La Salle for 29 years, he won five state championships. His resume also includes 11 regional crowns, 28 district titles and 21 league banners. His 592 wins are the second most in MHSAA history.
Mukhtar took Fraser’s boys club to its first final four appearance and didn’t lose a league affair until his fourth year
“The stats only tell part of the story,” he said. “I’ve been blessed over the course of my career to coach and build relationships with the finest of coaching staffs, student athletes and parents in the state.”
