The Hoopster Hook-Up

Two of the top prep boys cage prospects in the state’s senior class secured their respective college connections in recent days, with Ypsilanti’s Corey Allen committing to the University of Detroit-Mercy and Detroit Allen Academy’s Danny Pippen committing to Kent State University.
Allen is a silky smooth 6-foot-2 shooting guard with a lights-out stroke from long distance and with a tendency of bringing high-energy perimeter defense. He’s smart and crafty with the ball in his hands, able to run the team’s point if need be. As a fab frosh in 2013, Allen started on a Ypsi club that appeared in the Class A elite 8. Last season as a junior, he averaged 20 points, six assists and six boards per game, connecting on nearly 50 percent of his attempts from downtown.
Pippen is a raw, always-ready-to-ride, sparkling diamond-in-the-ruff on the wing at Class C Allen. His upside at the next level is tremendous. Standing an athletic and wiry 6-foot-7, he’s a natural finisher on the fast break and an active defender. With a fast-improving outside shot, Pippen will probably end up being a mid-major steal for the Golden Flashes when it’s all said and done on his career in the MAC.
