Top 10 Games: Allen Park, Wyandotte meet in early season showdown

Allen Park – As strange as it seems, the Downriver League matchup between Wyandotte Roosevelt and Allen Park on Thursday could well be for the league title.
Indications are that these teams are head and shoulders above the other eight league members.
Wyandotte won its opener, 34-6, over Gibraltar Carlson and Allen Park whipped Taylor Kennedy, 62-0.
Allen Park has been the league champs each of the last two seasons and will be the host team for the 7 p.m. start.
Wyandotte either won or shared the title the previous four seasons.
Wyandotte defeated Allen Park last season, 28-14, and has won six of the last seven but trails in the all-time series, 8-7.
Receiver Ryley Stewart, a transfer from Allen Park, could have a big game for Wyandotte. Pick: Wyandotte by 2.
Algonac (1-0) at Almont (1-0): Before last season Almont owned this series (12-3). Algonac won last season, 21-7. The Raiders take back control here. Pick: Almont by 5.
DeWitt (1-0) at Grand Ledge (0-1): Expect 8,000 or more at this game. As strange as it seems, these two Lansing area powers have never played. Hopefully that trend will be reversed. Pick: DeWitt by 2.
Grand Blanc (1-0) at Novi (1-0): Offensively, both teams brought their A game last week. Look for a shootout here. Pick: Grand Blanc by 2.
Grandville (1-0) at Lansing Sexton (1-0): Sexton whipped Detroit Renaissance last week, 47-7. Here’s a reality check. Pick: Grandville by 10.
Oak Park (0-1) at Birmingham Groves (1-0): Last week Groves won by forfeit; Oak Park won respect (played well vs. No. 1 Cass Tech). Welcome to the OAA White Division, Groves. Pick: Oak Park by 8.
Rockford (0-1) at Lowell (1-0): Eyes will be on Rockford. The Rams forfeited last week’s game due to a serious illness that affected about half its varsity players. Lowell looked good in downing Warren De La Salle last week. Should Lowell win it would tie the series at 13-13-1. Pick: Rockford by 4.
Utica Eisenhower (1-0) at Macomb Dakota (1-0): Much was made of last week’s nonconference show downs but this is THE game in Macomb County this season. Dakota by 6.
Walled Lake Western (1-0) at Canton (0-1): Did Canton run out of gas last week against Dearborn Fordson? Defensively, it did seem that way. Johnny Tracy (QB) did not play last week for Western. His status is uncertain but Western finds a way to win either way. Pick: Western by 3.
Zeeland West (1-0) at Muskegon Mona Shores (1-0): This was supposed to be a rebuilding season at Mona Shores. The Sailors whipped Holland West Ottawa 35-12 last week and have a good shot at returning to the playoffs. West holds a 3-0 series lead. Pick: West by 8.
Last week’s record: 8-2
