Westerly Winds Of Change

By: Scott Burnstein, September 20, 2015, 11:37 pm

Defending KLAA North boys basketball champion Walled Lake Western is in the market for a new coach.

Here’s Burney’s list of potential candidates:

Denny Butcher (Former WL Central coach) – Could the cage scene in Walled Lake be calling Butcher back into the fold?

Dave Walther (WL Western girls coach) – Already in the building, might be the most logical, convenient choice

Jon Djokai (WL Northern JV coach) – Most deserving current assistant in Oakland County of a shot at running his own program

Rick Palmer (Former Birmingham DCD asst.) – The best coach not yet a head coach in Metro Detroit in Burney’s opinion….this Kurt Keener protégé has been on the shelf since The OC Zen Master took off for Arizona over two years ago, should be itching to get back into the mix

Star Stevens (Former Waterford Mott asst, personal trainer) – A sleeper in the race hailing from the AAU-PT ranks, knows the game, relates well to the kids, stresses the right things in his approach to mentoring up-and-coming ballers

Brandon Cassisse (OL St. Mary’s asst, former WL Central Viking hoopster) – Quite the young stud of a coach in the making, only a matter of time before he gets his chance

Tom Negoshian (Former North Farmington coach) – TEAM NOGO Part 2, Take 2 on the Lake?……the semi-retired OAA stalwart, master motivator and tactician could be a very intriguing short-term solution to filling this void
