The state of Michigan has a dearth of talented young, spry post players in the mix these days on the boys basketball floor. Here’s a breakdown of some of the best underclassmen big fellas in the Mitten, according to your boy Burney:

 

Taylor Currie (Clarkston Soph. C) – They call him “Swaggy T” for a reason. Just so much swagger in the paint it’s downright SCARY!!!

 

Sean Cobb (Williamston Soph. PF) – Brings the noise, brings the pain EVERY possession

 

Maliq Carr (Oak Park Soph. PF) – Extremely intriguing double-double machine out of the OAA White, expect an even more of an eruption from this Knights BIG NASTY next year

 

William Dunn (Quincy Fr. C) – Fundamentally sound, active, aggressive and coachable, averaged 14 points, 8 boards and 3 swats a night as a fab frosh in ‘17

 

Nolan Foster (Mattawan Soph. C) – Tantalizing prospect in the middle, plays with a chip on his shoulder

 

Mike Fletcher (Flint Carman-Ainsworth Soph. PF) – Keeping that Flintstone tradition of toughness alive and well

 

Javian Fowler (Grand Rapids Union Soph. PF) – Freakish athlete who attacks the glass and goes at the rim like a wild bull

 

Caleb Hodgson (Dansville Soph. C) – Tall glass of water projecting a significant upside at the next level

 

Carlos Johnson (Benton Harbor Fr. PF/C) – The No. 1 player in the state’s Class of 2020, the kind of kid commanding immediate respect on the hardwood and in college recruiting circles, helped lead Benton Harbor into the Class B final four last month with a season average of 15 points and 15 boards per game

 

Dreyon O’Neil (Detroit Old Redford Soph. PF) – Recent transfer from Detroit Edison, cool, rugged customer patrolling the post, has an edge to his play and a high basketball IQ

 

Jalen Thomas (Detroit U-D Jesuit Soph. C) – A raw, unpolished gem on the blocks
