Boys basketball season tips off with a Detroit vs. Chicago showdown at Calihan Hall

Detroit – The 3rd annual DC Elite Tip-Off Classic will be held Monday and Tuesday at Calihan Hall on the campus of Detroit Mercy.
On Monday Detroit King will play Chicago Marshall at 4 p.m. followed by Detroit Renaissance against Chicago Kenwood. At approximately 7 p.m. defending Class A champion Detroit Western will play Chicago Bogan and the nightcap features U-D Jesuit against Chicago Morgan Park.
On Tuesday Detroit Loyola faces Southfield Christian at 4 p.m. immediately followed by Detroit Edison against Wayne Memorial. At approximately 7 p.m. Detroit Cass Tech will play Walled Lake Central and Detroit Henry Ford will play Macomb Dakota in the finale.
Among the top players in Monday’s games to look for are: King’s Treveon Orr a 6-7 junior, Renaissance senior guard Justin Turner and 6-5 sophomore Jalen Tobias, Western senior guard Brailen Neely and fellow seniors Kyree Boynton and Armani Tinsley, U-D’s Cassius Winston and Morgan Park’s Charlie Moore.
On Tuesday Loyola sophomore guard Pierre Mitchell committed to Central Michigan, Edison guard David Dejulius is one of the state’s top sophomores and junior Keyon Epps, an Eastern Michigan commit, leads Wayne. Point guards head the evening’s finale, James Towns of Henry Ford and Jermaine Jackson Jr., of Dakota.
