Brighton shoots 317, wins girls golf regional and heads to states

Hartland – Brighton failed to qualify for the state finals last season after four consecutive trips but the Bulldogs got back on track on Thursday.
Junior Julia Dean shot an even-par 71 to earn medalist honors and Brighton shot 317 to capture the Division 1 girls golf regional held at Hartland Glenn.
Novi finished second with a 327 and Northville was third with a 333.
The top three teams in each regional qualify for the state finals. The Division 1 finals will be held Oct. 16-17 at The Meadows on the campus of Grand Valley State University.
“I was pleased, it was good,” Brighton coach Paul Parsell said. “The scoring conditions were good. We had one of our better team scores today.”
Freshman Annie Pietila and sophomore Heather Fortushniak each shot 81 for Brighton.
For Novi Alexa Hatz shot 73 to finish second.
