BURNEY’S BOYS BASKETBALL POWER RANKINGS: Elite 8 big fellas in IHSAA for 2018-19

By: Scott Burnstein, December 5, 2018, 4:00 pm

1 Trayce Jackson-Davis (Center Grove Sr.) — The No. 1 overall recruit in the state, a tantalizing talent and dominating force down low.

*Committed to Indiana

2 Caleb Furst (Ft. Wayne Blackhawk Christian Soph.) — Fast-rising powerhouse in the front court, a small-school baller with a STRAIGHT NASTY skill set.

3 John-Michael Mulloy (Carmel Sr.) — A BOSS on the blocks. … ’NUFF SAID!!

*Signed with Butler

4 Kiyron Powell (Evansville Bosse Jr.) — Rangy “Ride-or-Die” type with a ridiculous upside.

5 Sydney Curry (Ft. Wayne Northrop Sr.) — I call him a Black Eyed Peas Special ‘cause he’s got that BOOM BOOM POW whenever he steps on the floor and goes to work prowling the post.

*Signed with Miami (OH)

6 Mabor Majak (Hamilton Southeastern Jr.) — This fly-swatting 7-footer is just starting to scratch the surface of what he will eventually become.

7 Dawand Jones (Indianapolis Ben Davis Sr.) — The perfect example of what a Sir-Grind-A-Lot mixed with a Sir-Swag-A-Lot is, bringing the noise whether getting busy on the gridiron or the hardwood. Think trying to stop a man the size of a small continent in the middle and you know what it’s like to defend the beefy but agile 6-foot-8, 365-pounder.

*Will play Division I football in college

8 D.J. Hughes (Lawrence North Soph.) — Top underclassmen prospect in the paint, piping-hot potential.
