BURNEY’S BYTES: Warren Central the best IHSAA team ever? Burney says it’s so …

Burney is declaring the 2018 Warren Central squad the best high school football team in the history of the IHSAA.

YEAH, I SAID IT!!!

The Warriors finished the year a shiny 14-0 record, ranked Top 15 in America. They clocked Carmel 27-7 in Class 6A state finals back on Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Firepower could be found on display everywhere this season.

You had prep signal-calling blueblood Jayden George (3,000 yards, 44 TDs), All-American wide receiver David Bell (1,500 yards, 23 TDs) and all-state tailback Romeir Elliott (3,000 yards, 40 TDs) — to just name a few — tearing up stat sheets everywhere they went, crushing all comers with sensational playmaking, a flashy style and searing efficiency to a tune of roughly 50 points per game.

This WC club is better than the WC state-title teams in 2006 and 1985 that have proclaimed best-ever status in the past. The ’06 crew had All-Americans Darren Evans (RB) and Jerimy Finch (CB) and the ’85 group was led by Jayden George’s dad Jeff George, who went on to a long career in the NFL as a field general.

The 1991 USA Today National Champion Ben Davis team and the 1961 Evansville Reitz team didn’t let up a single point, so they should get into the all-time greatest discussion too.
