Canton, Wyandotte banned by MHSAA from scheduled scrimmages
Canton and Wyandotte Roosevelt took part in a combined practice last Saturday, which the Michigan High School Athletic Association deemed a scrimmage, in violation of MHSAA rules, and the state association reprimanded the two schools by disqualifying both programs, at the junior varsity and varsity level, from participating in their scheduled scrimmage on Thursday.
According to MHSAA rules, teams must take part in nine practices before they are allowed to scrimmage. Canton and Wyandotte had just five practices before doing so.
As a result of violating this rule each school will lose one preseason practice, to be determined by each team.
Wyandotte coach Ron Adams chose Thursday as that date.
Adams sent a letter of apology to the players, parents and supporters of the program on Thursday morning.
It stated, in part, “I apologize for the impact this will have on our players, program and fans. I never intended to deceive, manipulate or violate the rules. I accept full responsibility for my decision and actions as the head football coach for Wyandotte Roosevelt High School”.
