Chandler Park rolls past Summit North, into Charter School Conf. tournament finals

ROMULUS — Finally, one or two games that DON’T come down to the buzzer.
After a brutal non-conference schedule, the Eagles of Chandler Park Academy cruised through the semifinals of the Charter School Conference tournament on Wednesday, beating host Romulus Summit Academy North, 88-25.
The Eagles (9-6) will play for their ninth CSC tournament title in 10 seasons on Friday, when they meet the winner of Wednesday’s second semifinal between Henry Ford Academy and Mt. Clemens. The Eagles’ ‘B’ team plays the regular season schedule in the CSC. [UPDATE: CPA will face HFA in the finals, after the Navigators beat Mt. Clemens in Wednesday’s second semifinal, 44-37.]
It was the second straight game that the Eagles put up 80 or more points, with eight different players recording six or more.
CPA led 22-6 after one quarter, 56-11 at the half, and 71-15 going into the fourth.
Emaia O’Brien had 24 points to lead CPA, while Semie Brar had 17 and Taliah Wickett had 10. India Respress had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Hidiamaka Ndukwe led the Dragons (8-8) in scoring, notching 20 of the team’s 25 points in the loss.
Those kinds of margins are rare for a Chandler Park squad that plays one of the toughest schedules in the state.
CPA has losses of eight points or less to top-15 teams in Brighton (14-1), Ann Arbor Huron (14-2), Flint Carman Ainsworth (13-2) and East Lansing (14-1), along with wins over Ann Arbor Pioneer (9-7), Ypsilanti Arbor Prep (14-4), Kalamazoo Central (8-8) and previously unbeaten Ecorse (12-1) in their last outing.
