D4 SEMIS: Lenawee Christian takes drama out of semifinals this time, rolling past Fowler, on to finals

GRAND RAPIDS — Last year, when they were here for the first time, the Adrian Lenawee Christian Cougars left it until the very end, getting past the semifinals on a buzzer-beater by then-freshman Bree Salenbien.
This time, the Cougars wasted no time.
Lenawee Christian blew out to an 8-2 lead, shooting 57 percent in the first quarter, and 61 percent in the first half, rolling to a 57-36 win over Fowler at Calvin College’s Van Noord Arena on Thursday.
The reigning Class D champs, the Cougars (25-2) move on to Saturday’s championship game at 10 a.m., facing St. Ignace (27-0).
Bree Salenbien had 11 of her 17 points in the first quarter, as Lenawee Christian led Fowler (17-8) by nine after one quarter, 21-12, and by 23 at the half, 41-18. She added nine rebounds, while Danielle Salenbien had a game-high 25 points, with eight rebounds.
Making its first appearance in the semis since 1999, Fowler was led by Kalani Koenigsknecht and Mia Riley who had 10 points each.
