Detroit Loyola and East English Village Prep added to Prep Kickoff Classic Schedule

When the Forgotten Harvest Football Classic was canceled earlier this week for financial reasons, teams like Detroit Loyola and Detroit East English Village Prep technically had no week one opponent. The two Detroit schools were originally set to square-off August 31 at Ford Field in the inaugural event. Now the two schools have new life, as they have been excepted to take part in the Prep Kickoff Classic at Wayne State. The new schedule for their game is August 30, at 1 p.m., at Tom Adams Field.
East English Village Prep will return to the event for it’s second consecutive year, after losing to Oak Park 21-14 last year. As if the matchups at the Prep Kickoff Classic weren’t intriguing already, the East English Village Prep and Loyola game will add a little more excitement. Oak Park vs. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, and Cass Tech vs. Southfield are already highly anticipated games scheduled for that day.
East English Village Prep played both Orchard Lake St. Mary’s and Oak Park last season. Oak Park and Southfield are division foes, and Cass Tech lost to Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 13-6 in week five. Super recruit Malik McDowell, now at Southfield, will get to see his former team Loyola in action at Wayne State. McDowell transferred schools over the summer.
The Prep Kickoff Classic will run from August 29-31, and will host seven games now. Dearborn will be back to avenge it’s 17-14 loss to Chippewa Valley in this event last year, at 4 p.m. on day one. A rematch of Macomb Dakota and Dearborn Fordson’s game from last season will take place at 7 p.m. The event continues to grow every year, as some Ohio flavor will be added to the mix. On day three, Brother Rice will take on Cleveland St. Ignatius at 1:30 p.m., and Warren De La Salle will face Cleveland Central Catholic at 5 p.m.
Tickets for the event are on sale for $8 in advance at participating schools, and will be $10 at the gate. As for the others six schools slated to play at Ford Field – Port Huron vs. Detroit King, Utica Eisenhower vs. Rockford, and Rochester Adams vs. Clarkston- their week one games will continue on also, at different times and venues.
