DIVISION 4 BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Beal City, New Lothrop advance to state championship game

New Lothrop 3, Maple City Glen Lake 1 – At East Lansing, making amends for a loss in last year’s final four, New Lothrop (33-6) got stellar pitching performances and timely hitting to advance into the state finals Saturday. Cameron Pope got the victory on the mound, striking out 11, and Grant Steinborn recorded the save working the seventh and retiring the last two batters of the game with the tying run on base and the winning run at the plate.
Steinborn and Quentin Taylor both belted RBI doubles to lead New Lothrop’s offense.
Trevor Apsey doubled in Glen Lake’s sole run of the contest.
Glen Lake ends its’ season at 32-3
Beal City 11, Kalamazoo Christian 1 – At East Lansing, cementing reservations for its second straight state championship game, Beal City (33-2) coasted to the win behind Ty Rollin’s 2-hiter on the hill.
Offensively, Ryan Tillman was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, headlining Beal City’s bats.
Kalamazoo Christian was the Cinderella of the D4 tournament, entering districts well under the .500 mark, but concluding the campaign 18-18.
