Division 7 and Division 8 playoff analysis, complete with district winners, semifinalists and winners

By: Tom Markowski, October 29, 2015, 2:50 pm

Here’s a glance at the Division 7 and Division 8 playoffs. In Division 7 we’ve had the Ishpeming-Detroit Loyola reruns the past three seasons. Never has the same teams met in the finals four consecutive seasons. In Division 8 we’ve seen Crystal Falls Forest Park make numerous appearances but in the last two seasons the dominant team has been Muskegon Catholic Central.

Division 7

There are two strong teams in Region 1, Ishpeming and Saginaw Nouvel, each in separate districts. I like Nouvel to take that region.

In Region 2, again, there are two strong teams and both a 9-0. Sandusky will emerge from district 1 and New Lothrop will get through district. I like New Lothrop to get past Sandusky in to semifinals.

And I like Nouvel to defeat New Lothrop in one semifinal.

In Region 3 Pewamo-Westphalia, Cassopolis and Bridgman are the power teams. Bridgman should squeak past Cassopolis in a district final then lose to Pewamo-Westphalia in the region final.

In Region 4 let’s not waste time. Loyola will dominate. Loyola will face Pewamo-Westphalia in a semifinal and win by 12.

Loyola then defeats Nouvel for the title.

Division 8

In Region 1 it’s a little confusing. My pick to escape this region and reach the semifinals is Forest Park, which is the No. 4 seed in district 1.

Told you it was a little crazy. Forest Park lost to Lake Linden Hubbell last week, 34-28, at Lake Linden. The teams play in the first round on Saturday at Lake Linden.

I have St. Ignace LaSalle winning district 2 but losing to Forest Park in the region final.

Muskegon C.C. should play Beal City in the Region 2 district 2 final and I like C.C. to advance to play Frankfort in the region final with C.C. winning.

In Region 3 Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary should get to the final where it will play, and lose to, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes.

In Region 4 Pittsford will face Climax-Scotts (9-0) in the district 1 final and pull off the upset. Pittsford will then upset Morenci in the region final but then lose to Lakes in a semifinal.

Look for C.C. to win its third consecutive title getting past Lakes by a touchdown.
