East English Village Dominates Pershing, 49-0

With the Public School League (PSL) Playoffs right around the corner, East English Village and Pershing both came into this game looking to strengthen their playoff hope: East English Village was coming off an impressive 46-6 win over Central, while Pershing was coming off a tough 26-12 loss to Denby.
Unfortunately for Pershing, the strong performance of Nate Boulware, Juwan Green and Equan Moore and equally strong play of the East English defense, they never had a chance as East English Village made a 49-0 shutout statement.
In the first half, Pershing received the ball first but was unable to accompish much. On East English Village Prep’s (EEVP) posession, due to some great pitch and catch between quarterback Anton Curtis and tight end Kahlid Hill, EEVP was able to get into good field position setting up running back Juwan Green for a 5 yard rushing touchdown. After converting the extra point, EEVP took a 7-0 lead. Right after the score, EEVP’s defense was able to execute a safety on Pershing, making the score 9-0. With less than three minutes on the clock in the first quarter, EEVP quarterback Anton Curtis and wide receiver Rico Lewis moved it down the field with a little pitch and catch which set up running back Nate Boulware for a 9 yard rushing touchdown. After converting the extra point, EEVP lead 16-0.
And the romp was on. In the second quarter, with 7:27 on the clock, EEVP quarterback Anton Curtis scored a three yard touchdown on a quarterback keeper, to put EEVP up 23-0. Then with less than two minutes left in the hlf, Pershing quarterback Jahni Hendon was intercepted, giving EEVP another chance to score before the end of the first half. With 50 seconds left in the first half EEVP running back Nate Boulware busted loose for a 50 yard touchdown, giving EEVP a 30-0 lead.
In the first play from scrimmage in the second half, EEVP fullback Equan Moore rtook it the distance for a 64 yard touchdown. After missing the conversion, EEVP lead stood at 36-0. With a comfortable elad, EEVP Head Coach Rod Oden put his backups in with two minutes left in the third, however the scoring train kept rolling. EEVP quarterback Matthew Simpson was able to rush for a three yard touchdown and after converting the extra poin,t EEVP ended the third quarter with a 43-0 lead.
Pershing simply could not get anything accomplished against EEVP’s strong defense. In the fourth quarter with 10:25 left in the game, Pershing quarterback Jahni Hendon was picked off by cornerback Nate Boulware. And that is how the whole night seemed to go for Pershing. EEVP defense was able to force a fumble which was recovered by defensive lineman Maurice Mitchell with 6 minutes left, who then returned it for a touchdown. In the end it was a statement game for East English Village Prep, and a very tough loss for Pershing.
