In a Detroit PSL East match up of 0-1 teams, both East English Village and ML King came into the game looking to even up their records and prove week 1 was not indicative of their season to come. But in a game that came down to a third quarter assault by ML King, it was East Village that bent but came back, partially riding on the 220+ yards rushing of running back Desmond King to defeat Detroit ML King 34-26.

In a first half dominated by East Village, quarterback Anton Curtis scored a 7 yard rushing touchdown off of a quarterback keeper providing the only scoring in the first half. But the action picked up quickly in the third when ML King received the ball first and wide receiver Anton Maddox returned the ball for an 84 yard touchdown. With many players on the field thinking the play had ended, Maddox took it the distance to make it 7-6. With 9:36 left in the third quarter, King was also able to capitalize off a blocked punt. Again Anton Maddox carried the load on a 15 yard touchdown giving King a 14-6 lead.

However, with 6:53 left in the third quarter English Village got rolling again as quarterback Anton Curtis connected with Rico Lewis for a 7 yard touchdown tying the game 14-14. But King replied a with a drive of their own, with 2:42 left in the third, as King quarterback Davaun Williams hit receiver Kevin Coleman for a 24 yard touchdown giving King a 20-14 lead. English Village got the ball back and responded quickly as quarterback Anton Curtis executed a 65 yard passing touchdown to Kahlil Hill, tying the game 20-20. Then with 1:56 left in the third Anton Maddox rushed for a 56 yard touchdown giving King a 26-20 lead at the end of the third.

But English Village was not going down quietly tonight, not even against a 26 point third quarter for ML King.. On the first play of the fourth quarter, English Village running back Desmond King rushed for a 3 yard touchdown and converted a two point conversion giving English Village a 28-26 lead. With 8:05 left, and ML King again driving for a go ahead score, the ball is fumbled and recovered by East Village linebacker Kamahl March. With 1:17 left, King again had a chance for a go ahead lead but quarterback Davaun Williams was intercepted by defensive back Desmond King, who took it 75 yards to the promised land, increasing English Village’s lead to 34-20.

With only 55 seconds left in the game, King tries to make one last run but in the end the game was sealed by safety Rico Lewis’s interception, giving English Village the win to improve their record to 1-1.  English Village finished with nearly 300 yards rushing and Desmond King of English Village finished the game with 300 all-purpose yards, one interception and two touchdowns. Wide receiver and defensive back Anton Maddox of King scored three touchdowns in the loss.
