East Kentwood wins first girls golf title

Battle Creek – Sarah White of East Kentwood shot a two-day total of 2-over-par 146 (73-73) to earn medalist honors and the Falcons won the school’s first girls golf championship as East Kentwood shot 643 (324-319) to win the Division 1 title on Saturday at Bedford Valley Golf Course.

Lake Orion placed second with a 665 total and Dearborn was third at 671. Novi placed fourth (675) followed by Davison (682), Farmington Hills Mercy (690) and Troy (691).

The two-time defending champion, Plymouth, was eighth with a 695- total.

Individually, Jaclyn Fanola of Monroe carded a 1-under 71 to finish second at 147, one shot behind White. Elayna Bowser of Dearborn and Lauren Ingle of Rochester Hills Stoney Creek tied for third at 148. Veronica Haque of Rochester was fifth at 155 and Madison Renko of Dearborn placed sixth at 157.

                             

 

Division 2

 

Birmingham Seaholm, the defending champions, blew away the field at Forest Akers West Course to retain its title.

Seaholm shot 331 on Friday and 329 on Saturday for a two-day total of 660.

South Lyon was second at 697, St. Joseph was third at 707, Okemos was fourth at 721 and Midland Dow shot 722 to place fifth.

Jamie Greene of Seaholm carded an even-par 72 on Saturday to finish at 7-over 151 to earned medalist honros.

Her teammate Allegra Cunningham shot 157 to place second and Caroline Harding of South Lyon was third at 159.

Stephanie Carras of Dow was fourth at 162, Evon Shay, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central finished fifth at 164 and Mackenzie Blomberg of Auburn Hills Avondale placed sixth at 165.

 

Division 3

Spring Lake trailed Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood by six strokes after Friday’s first round before trimming 17 strokes off of its first-round total and won the Division 3 title on Saturday with a score of 659 at Forest Akers East Course in East Lansing.

Led by Cordelia Chan’s 3-over par 75 Cranbrook Kingswood shot 332 on Friday to take the lead after round one.

Spring Lake shot a sizzling 321 on Saturday to win by eight strokes.

Defending champion Detroit Country Day was third at 703 and Grosse Ile, the Division 4 champion last season, was fourth at 704. Warren Regina placed fifth at 718.

Grand Rapids South Christian placed eighth with a 743 total. Its coach, Rod Van Dyke, died in a bicycle accident last week.

Chan earned medalist honors with a 150, Anna Kramer of Spring Lake was second at 153 (78-75) and Emily Barker of Lake Odessa Lakewood was third at 160 (79-81).

There was a four-way tie for fourth at 162 including Spring Lake’s Ginnie Olszewski, Spring Lake, Olivia Reed of Carleton Airport, Kendall Graves of Regina and Henna Singh of Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern.

 

Division 4

At The Meadows on the campus of Grand Valley State Kalamazoo Hackett won the state title on Saturday with a total of 690 (349-341).

   Harbor Springs was second at 724 and Macomb Lutheran North was third at 728. Grand Rapids West Catholic finished fourth at 741, Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian was fifth at 750 and Maple City Glen Lake was sixth at 752.

Nichole Cox of Glen Lake won medalist honors with a 159 (83-76), one stroke ahead of Bria Colosk of, Farwell, who shot 4-over-ar 77 on Saturday.

Abbey Detmar of Harbor Springs –placed third at 165 and Shayna Schneider of Frankenmuth was fourth at 166.
