Flood Warning At Cathedral: Field General O’Neil Going All Out In Recruitment

By: SCOTT BURNSTEIN, May 23, 2022, 12:17 pm

Circle City Gunslinger “Danny the Dagger” is finally getting the love on the recruiting trail. It’s well deserved.

The floodgates appear opening on the recruitment of Indianapolis Cathedral sophomore quarterback Danny O’Neil. The power-conferences are all-in now. This kid throws daggers all over the field at all the most critical junctures.

Indiana and Kentucky both offered and he’s visiting Notre Dame soon. Purdue was the first BCS school to offer back in the winter.

In his first year starting under center on varsity, O’Neil led Cathedral to a state title, evoking images of a Brett Favre or Drew Brees-in-training. The crafty and accurate 6-foot-1 O’Neil threw for 3,000 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2021 and the stats should keep compiling sky high over the next two seasons.

Expect more Big Ten schools to get into the mix in O’Neil’s recruiting in a matter of days. Iowa, Illinois, Michigan State and Northwestern are said to be circling.

One thing is for sure, O’Neil fits the bill, no matter where he lands for college. His intelligence, work ethic and leadership set him apart from the pack. The arm is golden. Big plays come easy. The term gamer and winner are most appropriate when talking “Danny the Dagger.”
