Flying Home & To The Next Level – Bishop Chatard QB VanVleet Commits To Dayton
He was hard to miss threading needles in Indy. Now, he’ll be taking his prowess in the pocket to the Buckeye State.
Indianapolis Bishop Chatard senior quarterback Drew VanVleet came to the Circle City from Richmond, near the Ohio border and the Dayton area, two years ago. He capped his prep pigskin career with a 3A state championship last November and will now head back towards home for his college ball.
The 6-foot-5 VanVleet, a true “supersonic sleeper recruit,” committed to the University of Dayton this week. Dayton is a Division I FCS program under head coach Rick Chamberlain. The Flyers compete out of the Pioneer Football League and went 8-3 in 2022. Chamberlain has led Dayton to three league titles since 2009
VanVleet completed 16-of-20 passes for 135 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in Bishop Chatard’s 34-14 win over Lawrenceburg in the state championship game at Lucas Oil Field. With VanVleet at the helm dissecting secondaries, Bishop Chatard’s offense averaged almost 40 points a game in the playoffs. He leaves the prep ranks as one of Hoosierland’s most underrated gunslinger field generals of the 2020s so far.
