FOOTBALL: Detroit East English Village Prep 2015 ATH Anton Curtis gets first offer from Central Michigan

DETROIT – A player’s first offer is like their first time kissing a girl, it’s something they’ll never forget. East English Village Prep 2015 athlete Anton Curtis waited along time for his first offer and it came yesterday, by the way of Central Michigan.
"It felt great," he said. "It was one of the best feelings I’ve had in a while, to just know that I have an opportunity to play at the next level."
Curtis said the Chippewas have been to his school on several occasions, but didn’t like they had the type of relationship that would make them what to offer him. But they did any ways and of course, that close relationship with the coaching staff can begin.
"Coach Collins came to watch one of our practices and I did a couple of drills for him," Curtis said. "So after practice, I talked to the head coach on the phone and he loved my tape, and said they had already watched it as a staff, and wanted to offer me a scholarship.
"We didn’t really have a relationship before this, but I feel we will have a great relationship now."
Curtis is 6-foot-2, 172-pounds, and can play multiple positions. Central Michigan offered him as an athlete, which could either be wide receiver, or defensive back.
"I would like to play wide receiver," he said. "But I wouldn’t mind playing defensive back, because of my size and footwork."
Michigan State, Eastern Michigan, Hope, Buffalo, Howard, Cincinnati, and Tennessee have also expressed interest in Curtis should have more offers before it’s all said and done. He just plans on focusing on the upcoming season and letting the process play out, just like the Central Michigan offer did.
"It has been great so far," Curtis said of his recruitment. "I’m enjoying it right now."
During the 2012 season as a sophomore, Curtis was the full-time quarterback, but was primarily a game manager, with seniors Khalid Hill and Desmond King carrying most of the load. This past season, he split time with sophomore Armani Posey at that position, and moved around between wide receiver and defensive back. Curtis still was able to throw 15 touchdowns and rush for nine, but he had to adjust quickly to the changes.
"It was a very different feeling for me," he said. "But my teammates helped me out and now I still think as a quarterback, as far as knowing what the opposing player is going to do before they do it."
For the team’s sake, Curtis made some sacrifices, but still had a solid junior year, as well helping the Bulldogs go 7-4. Their record can be misleading though, with three of those losses coming from Detroit Public School powers, Cass Tech and King. East English Village Prep was quite young as well, only having two seniors on the entire team, but will be a much bigger challenge to both those teams in 2014.
"We are very excited the season," said Curtis. "We lost to both of those teams last year, so those are big games for us, but we take it one week at a time. We expect nothing less than a state championship."
Eastern Michigan also offered Curtis today, making it two offers in less than 24 hours for him.
