Football Recruiting Notebook — Circle City QB Frenzy; Patterson guns it toward GLIAC, Tippet to DePauw

By: SCOTT BURNSTEIN, January 15, 2023, 11:42 pm

Mooresville senior quarterback Nick Patterson has committed to Saginaw Valley State, a Division II school in Michigan which competes in the power-packed GLIAC. Patterson was a stat machine under the center the past three seasons, slicing and dicing Indianapolis area secondaries for 7,330 total passing yards and 91 touchdowns. He threw for almost 3,000 yards and 37 scores as a junior in 2021.

During his senior campaign last fall, the 6-foot-2 Patterson passed for 2,176 yards and 23 touchdowns. This is a DI-caliber signal caller, so SVSU is getting a steal. Patterson’s field vision and smooth release set him apart at his position.

Tipping off his college plans

New Palestine senior quarterback Danny Tippit committed to DePauw last week. Tippett (5-10, 165) is coming off a fantastic senior season in 2022 where he racked up 2,546 yards and 33 touchdowns against a single interception and took his New Pal squad to a final four appearance. Yes, you read that right. Big Tip has pinpoint accuracy like a modern-day Drew Brees.

Offers of note:

Hamilton Southeastern junior OL Styles Prescod (6-6, 285) snagged scholarship offers from Notre Dame and Wisconsin. Prescod is on the verge of 4-star status in his recruiting. Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Pitt., Louisville, Kentucky and Duke all offered in 2022.

Ben Davis sophomore CB Mark Zackery collected an offer from Purdue over last weekend. Zackery is a 6-foot-1 two-sport standout and excels on the basketball floor too.  Indiana and Vandy put bids on the table for his services on the gridiron back in the summer.
