FOOTBALL RECRUITING: Statewide Commitment Round-Up – End of June
The local college football recruiting world was hustling and bustling this week, as close to a dozen of the state’s best high school players brought the curtain down on the month of June by committing to or signing with Division I schools:
Paris Bennett (U-D Jesuit) – A big and athletic linebacker, Bennett (6-foot-3, 225 pounds) committed to Syracuse. Not spawning from a "glamour program," but still playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the state, he is looked at as a raw, under-radar talent with a big upside at the next level.
Asantay Brown (Muskegon Mona Shores) – This cagey and dynamic wide receiver (6-foot-0, 175 pounds) caught 45 balls for 843 yards and scored 12 touchdowns as a junior last year and committed to Western Michigan.
Timmy Cason (Clarkston) – Sticky cover-specialist in the secondary (6-foot-1, 175 pounds) that proved the master of the pass deflection last fall during his junior campaign and committed to Western Michigan as well.
Alex Joss (Walled Lake Western) – Ferocious workhorse of an offensive lineman (6-foot-5, 295 pounds) that sprouted up physically and ascended up the scouting charts these past six months, finally landing at Ball State.
Jake Khoury (Traverse City St. Francis) – Known for his endless motor and ironclad work ethic on the field, Khoury (6-foot-3, 285 pounds) is a relentless run-plugger at the point of attack and committed to the University of Buffalo.
Nick Matich (Clarkston) – Tireless in the trenches on the defensive live, Matich (6-foot-3 1/2, 275 pounds) who can play both on the edge and get down and dirty in the interior, committed to Western Michigan, joining Brown and Cason as Broncos-commits this week.
Dylan Roney (Novi Detroit Catholic Central) – Quick on his feet and aggressive in pursuit of the quarterback, Roney (6-foot-2, 245 pounds), dangerous whether playing linebacker or on the line at rush end, committed to the U.S. Naval Academy.
Brett Scanlon (Dowagiac Union) – Recent DU grad and a top-notch punter on the gridiron, Scanlon signed his National Letter of Intent with Western Michigan.
John Williams (Berrien Springs) – Naturally-gifted at multiple spots on the field, Williams (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) will be a defensive end in the college ranks, committing to the University of Toledo.
In other area recruiting news, Detroit Cass Tech linebacker Will White has de-committed from Toledo and re-opened his recruiting.
