Forgotten Harvest Football Classic Represents more than just Football
The Prep Kickoff Classic presented by the Detroit Sports Commission at Wayne State will be a huge event to kickoff the high school football season. But it isn’t the only one of it’s kind in Michigan anymore. The Forgotten Harvest Football Classic also has a number of marquee games and players in it. It’s venue will also be top notch, as all four games will take place a Ford Field on August 31.
The event will be put on by Forgotten Harvest, metro-Detroit and the United State’s largest food rescue organization. They provide over 42 million meals per year, and are a non-profit organization. All proceeds from the event will help provide a million or meals for metro-Detroit families. Detroit East English Village Prep and Detroit Loyola will kickoff the event in the 10 a.m. game. Followed by the defending Detroit PSL champions Detroit M.L. King vs. Port Huron at 1 p.m. At 4 p.m., Utica Eisenhower will face-off against westside power Rockford, and Clarkston and Rochester Adams will wrap things up in the 7 p.m. game.
Four players in the event have all committed to Division 1 schools, including two to Michigan State. Detroit King’s Avonte Maddox made his pledge to Pittsburgh this week, and Clarkston’s Tim Cason to Western Michigan yesterday. Both Matt Sokol of Rochester Adams and David Beedle of Clarkston will play their college ball for the Spartans. Other marquee players include Nate Boleware (EEVP), Darryl Clemons (Loyola), Jalen Embry (King), Nate Emery (Eisenhower), and Nick Matich (Clarkston).
"In addition to the games on the field, Ford Field will also be hosting an educational learning zone for students, fans and families with information on universities, volunteer opportunities, student and youth groups and more," says the Forgotten Harvest website. Tickets are $12 for general admission (Free for those 2 years and under), and can be purchased at the Ford Field box office or at ForgottenHarvest.com.
