Detroit –

In a PSL-East Division battle between Frederick Douglass and M.L. King, the Hurricanes defeated the Crusaders 51-38 Tuesday night. Already mourning the death of a classmate who password away earlier that morning, King fought a good fight, but came up short late in the 4th due to the strong play of Douglass and forward Andre Fredricks.

The game remained close throughout the 1st half, with Douglass leading 25-20 at halftime. But Douglass broke the game open in the 3rd quarter. Douglass went on a 10-0 run, and never looked back. Forward Andre Fredericks (16 points,7 rebounds) started the run with a put back lay-up with 3:04 left in the 3rd for the 26-5 lead.

Fredricks and junior guard Darrell Davis accounted for all ten of the points on the drive, and with :54 seconds left in the 3rd Davis pushed the lead to ten with a steal and lay-up. King got close to cutting into the Douglass lead 45-38 with 2:52 remaining when Mycial Allen made both free throws. But that would be the closest King got to turniogn the tide, as Douglass clamped down on defense and prevented King from scoring the rest of the game. They controlled the ball and converted free throws down the stretch to nail the win, 51-38. Mycial Allen led King with 14 points.
