FRIDAY FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Lowell tops EGR for a second time, advances to second round
Lowell – With three minutes left to play and Lowell trailing East Grand Rapids 27-21, Lowell quarterback Ryan Stevens found receiver Gabe Steed for a 73 yard touchdown to put the Red Arrows on top, 28-27 and that score would hold up to be the final as Lowell advanced past its rival in its Division 3 playoff opener.
Stevens finished the game with 215 yards and a touchdown through the air, while adding in 59 yards on the ground as well. Max Dean chipped in with 79 yards and three touchdowns , while Josh Branagan had 56 yards receiving to help lead the way for Lowell.
East Grand Rapids was led by Bryce Henkey, who rushed for 141 yards on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns, while Michael Johnston added in a touchdown on the ground as well. Mikey Roth threw for 157 yards and a score to A.J. Zawacki as well for the Pioneers.
Clarkston 31, Oxford 8: Ian Eriksen rushed for 200 yards on 25 carries and had two touchdowns, while D.J. Zezula rushed for 156 more yards and two scores of his own to lead the way for Clarkston.
West Bloomfield 34, Livonia Stevenson 6: Trishton Jackson threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Lakers to their first ever playoff win.
Canton 48, Northville 7: Brian Newton rushed for 221 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries to pace the Canton offense on Friday night. Marcus Sanders added in 121 yards on the ground and Chuck Turfe added in 80 yards and a score as well for Canton.
Macomb Dakota 21, Utica Eisenhower 14: Kiser Carelton’s 17 yard run with 49 seconds left to play proved to be the difference as Dakota escaped to advance to the second round of the playoffs. Carelton rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns to lead Dakota.
Walled Lake Central 35, Waterford Mott 14: Nick Krumm rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns to lead Central to a playoff opening win. Zach Goor added in 70 yards and a score, while Evan Rodriguez had 56 yards and a score of his own for the Vikings.
Lapeer 23, Romeo 15: Brian Bach rushed for 77 yards and Brant Beck added in 69 yards to pace the Lapeer offense.
Lansing Catholic 61, Onsted 0: Tony Palmer rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown, while Tony Poljan rushed for three scores and threw for 110 yards and two more touchdowns to lead Lansing Catholic.
Dearborn Divine Child 9, Allen Park 7: Tyler Fugate’s 32 yard field goal with over three minutes left to play proved to be the difference as Divine Child outlasted Allen Park to advance to the second round. Collin Goslin rushed for 76 yards and had a first quarter touchdown to lead Divine Child.
Saline 41, Westland John Glenn 6: Kevin Gross rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns, while Josh Jackson threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns of his own to pace the Saline offensive attack on Friday night.
Clinton 42, Manchester 6: Collin Poore rushed for 202 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns, while Matt Sexton rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown and Noah Poore chipped in with two more touchdown runs to lead Clinton.
Flint Beecher 21, Montrose 13: Raumello Cooper rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns and also had an interception to lead Beecher.
Cedar Springs 36, Forest Hills Northern 0: MavRick Cotton rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, while Collin Alvester and Kaden Myers each rushed for 55 yards and a score for Cedar Springs.
Hudsonville 31, West Ottawa 13: Mason Opple threw for 75 yards and rushed for 98 more and had three total touchdowns to lead the way for Hudsonville, while Kyle Toth added in 79 more yards on the ground for the Eagles.
Warren De La Salle 43, Grosse Pointe North 14: Allen Stritzinger rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Pilots to a win in their playoff opener.
