YPSILANTI — While the Midland Dow Chargers may have graduated two highly decorated back-court members that are playing collegiately, they still have some veteran guards.

Junior Jada Garner stepped up with the go-ahead 3-pointer with 33 seconds left, as Dow rallied from seven down with 2:11 left to beat Maple City Glen Lake, 45-43, at the Seventh Annual Girls Basketball Ice Breaker Classic on Saturday.

The game was tied at 30-30 at the end of the third, but the Lakers eventually went up by seven points with just over two minutes remaining, before the Chargers (2-0) began to claw their way back. Garner’s 3 from in front of the Dow bench made it 44-43. The Chargers added a free throw from Kennedy Caldwell to finish out the scoring.

Katelyn Murray led Dow with 14 points while Garner — who played in the shadows of Molly Davis (CMU) and Maizie Taylor (Northwood) in the Dow backcourt the past two seasons — had 11. Chloe McVey had nine points.

Hailey Helling had 13 points to lead Glen Lake (1-1), while Grace Fosmore and Grace Bradford each had 11.

The game was tied 10-10 after the first quarter, and 19-19 at the half.
