GIRLS SOCCER: Ann Arbor Skyline continues winning streak

After only one loss to open the season, the Skyline girl’s soccer team has come back with a vengeance. Their current record is 5-1 after beating out Jackson Northwest this past Saturday under welcomed sunny skies and warm temperatures. Not only were they victorious, but much to Head Coach Chris Morgan’s liking, his team shut out Jackson for a final score of 4-0.
Skyline’s run over their past 5 games played has been impressive. They have shut out every team they have played since the opening loss with stellar goalkeeping by Senior goalie Tori Norris who had a big save in the 2nd half of the Jackson game. Norris has been the starting goalkeeper for Skyline since her freshman year and was a Division 2 All-State honorable mention as a sophomore. Needless to say, Tori knows how to handle the pressure of a quickly approaching soccer ball.
Other Skyline players of noteworthy play were Cienna Rael-Whitsitt and Hannah Simon, who each scored a goal. Assists went to Jenny Mann, Gretchen Bakker-Arkema, and Sari Greifer. Allie Moening displayed her diverse shooting skills by putting 2 goals past Jackson Northwest goalie Madison Perrin. Perrin held her own against the Skyline offense, saving a total of 12 shots, however it was not enough to hold back Skyline’s offensive line which has come on extremely strong this season.
Although Skyline is not currenlty ranked in the state of Michigan, we can expect that to change if the shutouts and front line scoring continue. Currently only one Ann Arbor area girl’s soccer teams is ranked—Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard – who Skyline beat earlier this season. If Skyline continues to guard the net like it has been, Gabriel Richard will likely have company in the playoffs.
