GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Dakota’s Snyder selected Miss Volleyball, caps super career
MACOMB COUNTY – Macomb Dakota’s Carli Snyder leaves high school and Metro Detroit for that matter, with quite the resume as a prepster on the volleyball court.
This week, Snyder, an imposing 6-foot-1 outside hitter, got voted the state’s 2013 Miss Volleyball Award-winner.
Last year, she led Dakota to a Class A state title. During the offseason, she plays with the U.S. National Juniors squad.
Snyder will be playing in college at the University of Florida.
As a senior this fall, she totaled nearly 600 kills (585) and took Dakota to a 39-9 overall record and league and district championships.
In the 2012 state finals in Battle Creek, Dakota (59-5 that season) bested Temperance Bedford in three straight games to claim the crown, with Snyder tallying 31 kills, more than doubling any other player on the court. The previous day in the semifinals in a three-game sweep of Northville, she recorded an eye-popping 43 kills and 10 digs.
Her future team at Florida is 25-3 so far this year, tops in the highly-competitive Southeastern Conference.
When she arrives on campus in Gainesville this summer, Snyder will be the only player on the Gators’ roster from the state of Michigan.
The state’s 2012 Miss Volleyball-winner, Amanda McKinzie (Battle Creek St. Phillip) is currently playing down south as well, at Virginia Tech.
