Hammering The Competition, Heading To Ohio — Roncalli Rushing King Hansen Rolls To Dayton For College Career

After a senior football season for the record books, rough and rugged Roncalli running back Luke Hansen committed to the University of Dayton over the weekend. This kid should be nicknamed “The Hammer.” The grit, purpose and durability he possesses when he runs the rock will almost certainly translate tremendously at the next level for the UD Flyers of the Division I Championship Subdivision and the Pioneer League.

Hansen rushed for a blistering 3,080 yards and 35 touchdowns for a 12-2 Roncalli Royals gridiron gang that reached the final four in 2022. He was a first-team all-state selection and voted Marion County Player of the Year following the season. In his junior campaign, Hansen logged 1,420 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground in his first year starting in the backfield on varsity and departs the IHSAA as Roncalli’s all-time career rushing king with more than 5,000 yards churned out. The previous record for the Royals lasted 37 years, set by Joe Gillum (Butler), who led Roncalli to its first state title back in 1985.
