Indy Area Football Recruiting Notebook — Booker-Baker’s Recruiting Goes Bang, LC Sr. Safety Lands ACC Scholarship

Lawrence Central senior safety Trent Baker-Booker just committed to Virginia, capping a rapid-fire recruiting process this past few weeks. Booker-Baker wasn’t on the recruiting radar entering the season. That fact changed quickly. And offers started to pour in.
UVA, Ohio, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois and Illinois State all offered him in September. The 6-foot-2 Baker-Booker has 24 tackles and 4 interceptions this year through seven weeks for a 4-3 club. Virginia plays out of the ACC and was Baker-Booker’s first power-conference offer. UVA head coach Tony Elliott came over from an assistant head coaching gig at national power Clemson to lead the Cavaliers (2-3 in 2022).
Getting in early
Warren Central sophomore defensive end Damien Shanklin received his first college scholarship over the weekend from Indiana University. Shanklin (6-4, 245) is terrorizing off the edge, logging 26 tackles and 3 sacks so far this fall.
Into the record books
Indianapolis Cathedral senior split end Jaron Tibbs became the Shamrocks all-time leading receiver last week (1,964 yards). Cathedral is the defending state champion in 5A and 5-1 in 2022. Tibbs (6-4) is committed to Purdue. He’s the top two-sport star in the Circle City, also excelling as a basketball player on the wing for Cathedral’s hoop squad.
