Jameson tallies two goals in final 20 minutes, leads Lansing Christian to 2-1 win over Liggett in D-4 Semifinals
Troy— The Lansing Christian girls soccer team is headed back to Lansing to play in the Division 4 state finals after defeating University Liggett semi-finals on Wednesday, 2-1.
Alexis Wagner scored for University Liggett 29:51 into the first half on a cross from Eleanor Withers, giving University Liggett a 1-0 lead.
University Liggett held onto the lead close to half way through the second half, when Kasey Jamieson scored for Lansing Christian on a breakaway at the 17:56 mark.
The game remained tied into the final minutes, until Jamieson buried a header into the back of the net on a corner kick cross from Juliana Figueiredo.
“Right as I saw the ball coming I just attacked it and it happened to go in and it was such a good feeling to know that we got ahead and we won the game,” Jamieson said.
“This time I just tried to kick it as far as I could because I knew Kasey was on the opposite side, and her headers are amazing, so I was trying to find the far side and so I lifted it up to her and it was a perfect header and it went right in,” Figueiredo said. “From my angle I wasn’t sure if the goal keeper would get it but since it went past her I was like Kasey’s got it.”
Jamieson has had a monster freshman year, scoring 46 goals in the regular season and now 11 goals in the post season.
Joel Vande Kopple, the head coach for Lansing Christian, knows he is lucky to have such a talented freshman on his roster.
“It starts with her speed. I mean you cant teach speed and anytime a defender knows that with one touch she is going to be by you that puts a little sense of doubt in the defenders mind.” Vande Kopple said. “But in addition to that she’s got fantastic touch and then the hardest thing to find in any soccer coaching is a good finisher, and she does every time she gets in front of the goal she seems to put it away and that’s huge. And for a freshman to score two in the state semi-final, it shows that the moment doesn’t get too big for her.”
