Southfield – On Monday afternoon, Lawrence Tech named Joshua Pickens to be the school’s new Men’s Basketball Coach beginning in the 2017-18 season.

Pickens will be the school’s second Men’s Basketball Coach in the modern era and takes over the program after Tom Kempf served as the school’s head coach from 2012-2017.

Pickens joins Lawrence Tech after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Midland University in Nebraska. Midland finished the 2016-2017 season with a 21-10 record and qualified for the National Tournament and finished in second place in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

In his playing career, Pickens played for Rock Valley Junior College before transferring to Ashford University as a junior and was named the team’s MVP in his senior season.

After finishing his athletic career, Pickens served as a graduate assistant at Ashford before joining Midland as an assistant coach.
