Locking Down His Service – Detroit Edison Football Star Matlock Flies To Air Force

The Detroit Edison football program has placed its first player in the Division I college ranks.
Pioneers’ senior defensive lineman Derrick Matlock recently accepted a scholarship offer from Air Force. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound workhorse in the trenches chose Air Force over other offers from the likes of Army, Navy, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley State and Northwood..
Edison is a Division 6 team in the MHSAA. The charter school’s football program is going on its tenth season in 2022. The Pioneers have qualified for the playoffs the past two years, finishing 6-3 and 6-4, respectively. In 2020, when Matlock was an up-and-coming sophomore, Edison won a pair of games in the Pandemic-expanded playoff format before falling to Warren Michigan Collegiate in the district finals.
Matlock recorded 55 tackles and 10 sacks last season. Air Force offered him in May.
