Michigan Helmet Challenge set to get underway on Tuesday, May 19
We’ve gotten to 64 entrants for the inaugural Michigan Helmet Challenge — well, actually 65 with one late entrant, so we’re going to have a play-in contest — so we’re ready to get it underway.

Below are the programs (in alphabetical order) who’ve asked to participate in the contest. We have pictures of all the helmets (save Holly’s), and have randomly drawn an order for placing the teams on the bracket. The 64-team bracket can be found here: 2020 Michigan Helmet Challenge Bracket
If you’ve contacted us to get in, make sure your name is on the list below, as well as if we have the right Twitter handle to use in the poll.
Now that we’re set, here is the process: Each match-up will be contested by a poll on Twitter, from the @statechampsmich account. Share the poll with your own Twitter account to generate traffic and votes. The polls will last 24 hours — with the exception of the championship match-up (48 hours) — and the winner (by vote) will move on to the next round.
The schedule for the rounds is listed below, so note when your match-up will be. Regions are marked on the bracket that will be posted Monday evening.
If there are no further questions, we’ll get underway with the play-in contest shortly after the bracket is posted.

BRACKET UNVEILED — Monday, May 18 (5 p.m.)

Play-in contest — Monday-Tuesday — With 65 teams asking in, we had to have a play-in contest for the final spot in the 64-team field. We’re pitting the now-closed Farmington Hills Harrison against Livonia Churchill. Churchill won with 59 percent of 843 votes. [RESULTS]
UPDATE: (Tuesday, May 19, 5 p.m.) We will have a second play-in game between Saginaw Heritage and Fowlerville, the No. 16 seed in the North Region. Heritage was promised a spot, and was inadvertently omitted, but the Glads were willing to take on the additional challenge (well-deserved kudos for that). The second play-in poll will run from 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the winner will take on Roseville in the first round on Thursday.
