MIDWEST RECRUITING: Last minute shopping, as Ben Davis recruits find homes in college

It wasn’t decided until they picked up the pen to sign.

Three of Indiana’s top high school football players made last-minute college connections before Signing Day, two came from Giant Country:

Ben Davis offensive lineman Dawand Jones (6-foot-8, 375 pounds), who grew to be the hottest recruit in the state’s senior class in the months after the season concluded, inked with Ohio State. Meanwhile, the young man he’s been clearing holes for on the line the past few years, Giants star tailback Delbert Mimms (6-foot-0, 200 pounds), penned his National Letter of Intent to N.C. State following a recent de-commitment from Vanderbilt. Jones is a basketball star as well and prior to his pigskin recruiting heated up (garnering more than a dozen “high-major” offers from big-name programs), he was on the verge of signing with Kent State for hoops. Mimms ran for 1,253 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2018.

Finally, from the SUPER SONIC SLEEPER SPECIAL department, Ft. Wayne Wayne’s defensive end Darius Alexander (6-foot-5, 225 pounds), signed with Toledo. Alexander had 55 tackles and eight sacks back in the fall.
