MIDWEST RECRUITING: Michigan State lands another Flintstone, getting commitment from Beecher’s Jalen Terry

By: Scott Burnstein, April 7, 2019, 7:00 pm

Michigan State has snared itself another Flintstone for its hoop kingdom.

Flint Beecher juggernaut junior point guard Jalen Terry committed to Big Ten champ Michigan State this past week, giving Tom Izzo and his staff another hardwood gem born and bred in the same factory town that has produced past Spartan greats like Mateen Cleaves, Morris Peterson, Charlie Bell, Antonio Smith and Terry Furlow.

An electric playmaker and one of the early favorites in the race for Mr. Basketball next year, Terry (6-foot-0) is a firecracker of a floor general who averaged 23 points, six assists and six rebounds per game in 2019. He earned Associated Press Division 3 Player of the Year honors last month and spurred his Beecher Bucs (23-3) on to district and regional titles.

From the DII ranks:

Gaylord senior small forward Blake Charboneau and Midland senior wing Isaiah Bridges are both bound for the GLIAC, as Charboneau signed with Grand Valley State and Bridges inked with Michigan Tech last week. The 6-foot-6 Charboneau averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game this year — he can shoot, he can guard and he has hops. Bridges (6-foot-5) dropped in 21 points and cleared 11 boards a night in the 2019 campaign where he piloted the Chemics to a district title and an appearance in the Division 1 sweet sixteen — the picture of efficiency, he connected on nearly 50 percent of his shots from the field and canned over 40 percent of his attempts from 3-point range.

From the DIII ranks:

Rochester Adams senior small forward Jake Schuler will play his college hoops at Trine University in Indiana. He notched 11 points and 6 rebounds per outing on an Adams squad that went 19-3, won the OAA White and bumped off two-time Class A state champ Clarkston to tip-off the tourney. Schuler is a dogged competitor with equal parts grit and finesse fueling his skill set. In other words, he’s a Sir-Grind-A-Lot Special with a ton of upside at the next level.
