Midwest Recruiting: Steve Mann of Duke selected by Tigers in 38th round

Durham, N.C. – The Detroit Tigers drafted Duke baseball signee Steve Mann in the 38th round (No. 1145 overall) in the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft Wednesday.

An outfielder from Beverly Hills, Mich., Mann was the second Blue Devil signee drafted in 2017, joining infielder Wil Hoyle (Oakland Athletics, 38th round).

Mann was named the 2016-17 Gatorade Michigan Baseball Player of the Year as well as the Athlete of the Year by the Detroit Athletic Club. He also garnered 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game Third Team All-America honors to go along with Central All Region First Team distinction.

Mann participated in the 2016 East Coast Professional Showcase, which provides a venue for the premier youth baseball players across the eastern United States to compete in a professional environment. In addition, Mann was selected to the 2016 Area Code games, the 17U Evoshield Classic and the 17U Perfect Game World Series. In 2015, he was named to the Perfect Game National Showcase Top Prospect Team.
