Mumford’s tipoff classic features boys and girls games

Detroit – Once again Detroit Mumford will be the site for a basketball tournament that will tip off the season.
For the first time the DC Elite tournament will be a four-day event featuring girls games the first two days and the boys the last two.
Last year Mumford hosted a two-day event, predominantly featuring boys contests.
Five games will be played Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
Six games will be played Sunday, also beginning at 11 a.m. The featured game is on this day when Benton Harbor, one of the state’s top teams, plays Chicago Whitney Young, which is ranked No. 5 in the country by MaxPreps.
Four boys games will be played on Monday and four more on Tuesday. On each day the action begins at 4 p.m.
The featured game is Monday at 8:30 p.m. and it pits U-D Jesuit, which reached the Class A semifinals last season, against Chicago Morgan Park. Morgan Park is led by senior point guard Marcus Lavette (6-1) who has been offered a scholarship by Arizona, Illinois and Kansas, among others. U-D counters with junior point guard Cassius Winston (6-1) who has been offered by Michigan and Michigan State, among others.
Tickets are $10 and available at the door.
