Unlike any other state-wide award, this is the only one that allows the Michigan fans to weigh in! The winner of the online vote is automatically entered into the Final “Frozen” Four, and their chances of winning is increased by 20%.

The criteria that will be used to select the 2021 Hockey Player of the Year champion will be: 30% - Performance Throughout Season 20% - Level of Competition 20% - Online Vote 15% - Big Game Performance 10% - Team Success 5% - Highly Recruited Athlete

Throughout the season, our media analysts have been monitoring performance, updating player statistics and adding new candidates into the contest as their actual play and performance merits, with a goal of keeping the ten best hockey players on the board.

The final award selection and presentation will take place over the next ten days with our good friends at Warrior Sports!

Dean Loukus

Calumet | Forward

Senior

"It seems every year Calumet has a Loukus or two on the roster! They have all been quality players, but Dean might just be the best of them all, and that is saying a lot. A tenacious player who has a constant motor, and makes plays at top speed. He is a high-end guy for sure, and I expect him to continue playing for many years after his career at Calumet is done." -Opposing MHSAA Coach

Jimmy Pietila

Houghton | Goalie

Senior

"Jimmy has made quite the name for himself. If playing the stingy Gremlin team wasnt hard enough, you have to deal with him on the back end. He plays up top, challenges shooters, and has great athleticism as well. There are a lot of great goalies in Michigan, but it says a lot when many coaches agree that he might be the very best." -Opposing MHSAA Coach

"He skates so well, and it opens up so many opportunities for himself and his line mates, but his compete level is what jumps out to you the most." -Brandon Kaleniecki Detroit Catholic Central Head Coach
