PREP RECRUITING REPORT: CC’s Birney, Oak Park’s Biles & Oxford’s Piesko link-up with schools at next level

Oakland County had three of its best prep athletes recently commit to Division I colleges in their respective sports.

Sean Birney (Novi Detroit Catholic Central) – The Shamrocks’ two-sport standout committed to play lacrosse in college at the University of Detroit-Mercy. Birney is also the starting quarterback on Catholic Central’s state-powerhouse football team this fall. Both endeavors have him following in the footsteps of his big brother, Mike, a former Shamrocks’ starting signal-caller on the high school gridiron that is currently a junior in the UD-Mercy LAX program.

Ja’Christian Biles (Oak Park) – A transfer from Southfield-Lathrup where he was a two-year starter on the basketball floor, Biles, who landed at Oak Park late last winter, has committed to Youngstown State University out of the Horizon Conference. The 6-foot-4 gunner with a soft-touch from beyond the arc and an aggressive, but smooth move to the rim, is considered a Top 15 player in the state. His Oak Park squad – stacked with a plethora of impact transfers including Biles – will be a serious threat to go far this winter.

P.J. Piesko (Oxford) – This crafty southpaw hurler committed to play his collegiate baseball a short distance from home, pledging his allegiance to Oakland University. The Oxford ace baffles opposing batters with his off-speed pitches, possessing a Grade-A curveball and change-up that compliments a deceivingly tough-to-hit fastball. Piesko has proven clutch in his prep career as well, spinning a beauty of a two-hitter in the districts back in the spring.
