DETROIT — The defending City champs, Cass Tech got 27 points from Tyson Acuff, and pushed its winning streak to 11 with a 60-45 win over Western in Saturday’s Detroit Public School League tournament quarterfinals.

The Technicians (15-1) advance to next Tuesday’s PSL tournament semis on their home floor, where they’ll face CMA in the second semifinal of the night, at 7 p.m.

It was the second time this season Cass Tech has beaten Western (7-7), after collecting a forfeit win on Jan. 10.

The Technicians used a 15-0 run to open up a 12-point lead, 19-7, early in the second quarter. A layup by Kalen King with 40 seconds left in the first half allowed Cass to push the lead to 20 points.

Acuff’s 10 second-quarter points helped Cass Tech outscore Western 21-9 in the period, and lead 33-16 at the half. He hit six 3-pointers in the game, and was fouled twice in the act of shooting behind the arc, nailing five of the six free throws from those two opportunities. Mekhai Walker added 10 points of the bench for the Technicians, while Kyle LeGreair had seven.

Shamar Ballenger had 18 points to lead Western.
