HOCKEY RANKINGS: Shamrocks stay No. 1; Howell, Petoskey, Trenton & Milford jump into Sean Baligian’s final top 25 before the MHSAA playoffs

Here are the top 25 teams in Michigan, as of the week of February 14, 2022:

1 Detroit Catholic Central (Division 1)

Last Ranking: 1

The Shamrocks have not lost to an in-state team in almost a year, last losing to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood on February 18th 2021. The streak currently sits at 33 games, including the Division 1 Championship last year

2 Flint Powers (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 3

The Chargers are rolling with 8 straight wins, and look like the team to beat in Division 3 heading into the final week of the regular season.

3 Hartland (Division 2)

Last Ranking: 5

The Eagles clinched the very tough KLAA Championship, and have established themselves as the favorite in Division 2.

4 Warren De La Salle (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 4

The Pilots are riding a 3 game win streak heading into a showdown with #1 Catholic Central at USA Hockey Arena on Wednesday.

Livonia Stevenson (Division 2)

Last Ranking: 6

The Spartans went 2-2 since our last rankings, and finish the regular season with a huge road test at #2 Flint Powers. Coach David Mitchell deserves coach of the year consideration in Division 2.

6 Riverview Gabriel Richard (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 2

The Pioneers bounced back nicely after losses to #3 Hartland and #5 Livonia Stevenson with wins over Woodhaven and Grosse Pointe South.

7 Muskegon Mona Shores (Division 2)

Last Ranking: 7

The Sailors have won 5 of 6, and being led by Junior Trent Benedict, who has scored 40 goals amongst his 66 points.

8 Brighton (Division 1)

Last Ranking: 10

The Bulldogs have ripped off 7 straight wins, and Coach Kurt Kivisto deserves coach of the year consideration in Division 1.

9 Marquette (Division 2)

Last Ranking: 11

The Redmen showed everybody what a threat they are to anybody at the MIHL showcase in Trenton. This is a team capable of winning it all in Division 2.

10 Houghton (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 13

The Gremlins were another team that had the buzz going for them at the MIHL showcase, and they are getting hot at the right time winning 5 of 6. Coach Corey Markham deserves coach of the year consideration in Division 3.

11 Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 8

The Eaglets went 2-2 since our last ranking, but remain another dangerous squad in what is the division of intrigue come playoff time, Division 3.

12 Cranbrook-Kingswood (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 16

Two solid wins over Port Huron Northern and Birmingham Brother Rice last week, lift the defending Division 3 Champions up in our rankings this week.

13 Brother Rice (Division 2)

Last Ranking: 9

The defending Division 2 champs are still a threat to win it all again, and have a fantastic season finale Wednesday when they host #8 Brighton in Oak Park.

14 Grosse Pointe South (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 17

The Blue Devils looked fantastic at the MIHL showcase with convincing wins over Grand Rapids Catholic Central and Calumet.

15 Calumet (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 12

The Copper Kings visit Houghton on Tuesday night in what is a can’t miss battle in the U.P. Coach Dan Giachino continues to be one of the best Coaches in the State.

16 Midland Dow (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 22

4 straight wins move the Chargers up in our rankings, and they have a chance to make a bigger statement when they host #2 Flint Powers on Tuesday.

17 Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett (Division 3)

Last Ranking: 14

The Knights went 4-2 since our last ranking, and Senior Doug Wood is having a tremendous season leading the way with 32 goals and 60 points in only 21 games.

18 Howell (Division 1)

Last Ranking: NR

The Highlanders have won 4 of their last 5, and are going to be a tough out for anybody behind the stellar goaltending of Senior Ean Badgett.

19 Petoskey (Division 2)

Last Ranking: NR

The Northmen have ripped off 9 straight wins and wrapped up their first Big North Championship.

20 Trenton (Division 2)

Last Ranking: NR

The Trojans not only did a fantastic job hosting the MIHL Showcase off the ice, but they were outstanding on the ice as well with wins over Byron Center and Mona Shores. Coach Chad Clements always has his squad ready come playoff time.

21 Salem (Division 1)

Last Ranking: 19

The Rocks have won 2 of 3, and an exciting finish to an extraordinary day with a win over Midland Dow, after having their bus stuck in the snow.

22 Rockford (Division 1)

Last Ranking: 21

The Rams have won 3 straight and getting hot at the right time as they look to make another run in Division 1.

23 Byron Center (Division 2)

Last Ranking: 15

The Bulldogs snapped a 3 game losing streak with a 6-3 win over Kenowa Hills on Saturday.

24 Grandville (Division 1)

Last Ranking: 20

Two straight wins after a 3 game losing streak of their own keep Grandville in our rankings, and a dangerous team in the D-1 ranks.

25 Milford (Division 3)

Last Ranking NR

The Mavericks are red hot, winning 8 straight and scoring 48 goals in that span. Coach Dennis Gagnon has done a tremendous job with his club in the Lakes Valley Conference.
