Michigan top 25 football rankings after Week 1 of 2021: Belleville ascends to No. 1, as West Bloomfield stumbles out of gate

Well, the whole ‘giving the defending champ the benefit of the doubt’ thing didn’t work out, as West Bloomfield got knocked off by Rochester Adams. That puts Belleville in the top spot headed into Week 2, with a handful of teams coming off impressive Week 1 wins — DeWitt, Cass Tech, Chippewa Valley and Grand Rapids Catholic Central — right behind them. On the other end of the spectrum, Adams moves into the rankings, along with Birmingham Brother Rice, while Macomb Dakota — Rice’s Week 1 victim — drops out, along with a remade Davison roster that probably acquitted itself well enough against Clarkston at the Big House to stay in the rankings, if not for a numbers game. The Cardinals have a chance to jump right in with a Week 2 road matchup against Detroit Catholic Central.
