Michigan top 25 ranking after Week 5 of the 2021 season: No upsets among top 15 teams; Woodhaven claims lone open spot in rankings
Well, finally a week where the No. 1 team in the SC! Top 25 was safe from upset — even if it was by the default of a forfeit win. The No. 1-ranked King Crusaders weren’t the only ones safe from upset, though, as just a trio of top-25 teams were handed losses in Week 5 — with Dearborn Fordson losing to Belleville, Romeo falling to Chippewa Valley and River Rouge falling to Ohio powerhouse Cleveland St. Ignatius. That left just one spot open for a new team in the top 25, with Woodhaven claiming it off a comeback win in its Downriver League showdown with Allen Park. Week 6 will be much more of a clarifying marker, with league showdowns looming in the OAA Red (No. 11 Clarkston at No. 7 West Bloomfield), MAC Red (No. 15 Sterling Heights Stevenson at No. 6 Chippewa Valley) and CHSL Central (No. 8 Detroit Catholic Central at No. 4 Warren De La Salle).
