STATE CHAMPS! Michigan small-school girls basketball rankings for Feb. 10: Kent City takes over top spot, while four new teams join top 25
A full 10 of our top 25 small school squads took losses over the last week, including our former No. 1 team. That 14-point loss by St. Ignace to Division 2 Sault Ste. Marie — a team the Saints had beaten 40-37 back on Dec. 20 for the Blue Devils’ only loss — snapped a seven-game win streak, and dropped last year’s D4 runners-up from the top spot, at least temporarily. It elevated Kent City — on an eight-game win streak of its own since losing to D1 Muskegon — to the No. 1 spot, followed by a pair of teams that are still unbeaten. Michigan Center knocked off Grass Lake to move into the rankings, along with a pair of Tri-Valley Conference West teams in Ithaca and Hemlock.
