STATE CHAMPS! Michigan small-school girls basketball rankings for Feb. 24: E-TC hits top 10, Hamady, Calumet, Ubly join top 25
This version of the small-school top 25 has a distinct Upper Peninsula flavor, with five top 25 teams.
Ewen-Trout Creek moves into the top 10 at No. 9, joining St. Ignace (No. 4) there, while Ishpeming Westwood (No. 17) and Pickford (No. 20) are still in the top 25, and Calumet (No. 24) jumped in to join them from the ranks of the honorable mentions. Negaunee, Felch North Dickinson, Carney-Nadeau and Baraga were on the edge of making the honorable mention list, as well.
A group of teams — Michigan Center, Ithaca, Hemlock and Brooklyn Columbia Central — took advantage of slides by another handful of teams to move from the 20s into the teens in the poll, while Ubly makes its debut, and Flint Hamady returns.
Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart was one of the teams that slid, taking its first loss against Division 2 Clare, while Manton and Maple City Glen Lake each took another loss against a ranked team.
