STATE CHAMPS! Top 25 Hockey Rankings – Week of 1/1/23

Here are the top 25 teams in Michigan, as of the week of January 1st, 2023:

1 Detroit Catholic Central (Division 1)

The Shamrocks remain on top as they have compiled an 8-0 record in state, outscoring opponents 52-6.

2 Houghton (Division 3)

The Gremlins remain unbeaten as well, and have been an offensive juggernaut, scoring 72 goals in 12 games.

3 Byron Center (Division 2)

The Bulldogs have roared off to a 13-0 start, and have shown an offensive flair of their own scoring 76 goals so far.

4 Flint Powers (Division 3)

The Chargers are off to an 8-1 start, and riding a 5 game win streak.

5 Brighton (Division 1)

The Bulldogs are off to an 8-3 start and have a showdown looming on Friday at Houghton.

6 Trenton (Division 2)

The Trojans sit at 7-3 and host Orchard Lake St. Mary’s on Friday in a big MIHL tilt.

7 Livonia Stevenson (Division 1)

The Spartans are off to an 8-2 start in state, and have only given up 13 goals.

8 Hartland (Division 1)

The Eagles are off to a 7-3 start, and once again a threat to take a long run come playoff time.

9 Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s (Division 3)

The Eaglets are riding a 4 game unbeaten streak at 3-0-1 with wins over Howell, U of D Jesuit and Marquette.

10 Grosse Pointe South (Division 2)

The Blue Devils are off to a 7-2 start and have a big road test Wednesday when they travel to take on Detroit Catholic Central.

11 Clarkston (Division 1)

The Wolves remain unbeaten to start the new year,  and have scored 65 goals in 10 games.

12 Muskegon Mona Shores (Division 1)

The Sailors are off to an 8-3 start, and have a showdown looming at home against Clarkston on Saturday.

13 Marquette (Division 2)

The Redmen are off to an 8-3-2 start, and being led by the dynamic Jake Garrow up front.

14 U of D Jesuit (Division 2)

The Cubs play in the toughest conference in hockey, and always schedule tough out of conference matchups as well.

15 Brother Rice (Division 2)

Coach Kenny Chaput has a young blue-line that is only getting better as the season progresses.

16 Bay Reps (Division 3)

The Reps are off to an 8-1-2 start in state, and the offense has really started to click as they have scored 29 goals in their last 5.

17 Alpena (Division 2)

The Wildcats are riding a 5 game win streak, and sit at 9-2 overall.

18 Riverview Gabriel Richard (Division 3)

The Pioneers are 7-4 in state, and have a 3 game win streak in state leading into a week where they face two tough opponents in University of Liggett and Detroit Country Day.

19 Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett (Division 3)

The Knights make their debut in out rankings as they are off to an 8-2 start and riding a 3 game win streak.

20 Grand Rapids Catholic Central (Division 3)

The Cougars sit at 10-4, winning 4 of their last 5.

21 Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern-Eastern (Division 3)

The Birddogs are off to an 8-2-1 start, and getting tremendous goaltending from Sr. Caleb Woolery.

22 Traverse City Central (Division 2)

The Trojans make their debut in our rankings by virtue of their 7-3-2 start, while winning 4 straight.

23 Saline (Division 1)

The Hornets make their debut in our rankings as they are off to an 8-2 start. Coach Zagata and his staff have done a great job with this young corps.

24 Lakeland (Division 2)

The Eagles are off to a 10-0 start, and have only given up 15 goals so far this season.

25 Detroit Country Day (Division 3)

The Yellowjackets make their debut in our rankings as Coach Novock has them off to a 7-2-2 start, while winning three straight.
