STATE CHAMPS! Top 25 Hockey Rankings – Week of 1/30/23 – Detroit Catholic Central and Houghton stay No. 1 & 2 heading into the MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase

Here are the top 25 teams in Michigan, as of the week of January 30th, 2023:

1 Detroit Catholic Central (Division 1)

Previous Ranking: #1

The Shamrocks remain unbeaten at 19-0, and are coming off of two impressive wins over out of state opponents St. Ignatius and Lake Forest Academy. A showdown with #2 Houghton looms on Friday at the MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase.

2 Houghton (Division 3)

Previous Ranking: #2

The Gremlins are unbeaten at 20-0, and are coming off a big win over Bay Port, Wisconsin. All eyes will be on the matchup with #1 Detroit Catholic Central, in a game that can be seen on State Champs! “Game-Time Live” at 3:30 on Friday, February 3rd

3 Byron Center (Division 2)

Previous Ranking: #3

The Bulldogs are also unbeaten at 20-0, and have two of the marquee matchups in Trenton as they take on Livonia Stevenson and Hartland.

4 Alpena (Division 2)

Previous Ranking: #5

The Wildcats have extended their win streak to 14 games, and have two great tests against Trenton and University Liggett at the MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase.

Past week: Wins over Flint Powers and Saginaw Heritage.

This week: Home and Home with Petoskey.

5 Livonia Stevenson (Division 1)

The Spartans sit at 15-4, and are riding a 3-game win streak heading into two tough battles against Byron Center and Marquette at the MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase.

6 Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s (Division 3)

Previous Ranking: #11

The Eaglets jump up to 6th as they are riding a 4-game win streak. Two intriguing matchups in Trenton await as they will face Salem and Saginaw Heritage.

7 Brighton (Division 1)

Previous Ranking: #7

The Bulldogs sit at 14-5 and have matchups with Lake Forest Academy and Riverview Gabriel Richard in Trenton.

8 Marquette (Division 2)

The Redmen are a dangerous team once again under Coach Doug Garrow, and have two great tests in Trenton against U of D Jesuit and Livonia Stevenson.

The Trojans are coming off a solid win over Warren De La Salle, and will host Alpena and Calumet at the Showcase.

13 Flint Powers (Division 3)

The Chargers are sitting at 13-4 heading into showcase matchups with Riverview Gabriel Richard and Cleveland St. Ignatius.

14 Riverview Gabriel Richard (Division 3)

Nine straight wins in-state will be put to the test for the Pioneers as they will face Flint Powers and Brighton in Trenton.
