Top 25 HS Football Teams: Eisenhower, Groves make first appearance in top 25

- Detroit King (10-0), A: Exhibiting perhaps a bit of a PSL championship hangover, King trailed U-D Jesuit 24-21 in the second half before prevailing 35-24. Next up for the Crusaders is Wyandotte Roosevelt (8-2).
- Saline (9-0), A: The Hornets showed little rust from a week away from competition as they handled Monroe, 28-14. Another Southeastern Conference rival (Ann Arbor Pioneer) awaits this week.
- Walled Lake Western (10-0), A: No late-game heroics were needed this time against Walled Lake Northern as the Warriors took care of business in tidy fashion, 33-9. A spunky Birmingham Groves (10-0) is next in a Division 2 district final.
- Muskegon Mona Shores (10-0), A: The Sailors had a close call in the Division 2 playoff opener. Mona Shores defeated Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern, 21-12, and now host Muskegon in a district final. Mona Shores defeated Muskegon, 21-18, earlier this season.
- Lowell (9-1), A: The Red Arrows ran past Battle Creek Lakeview, 49-6, and will are expected to have an easy time with Byron Center this week.
- Detroit Cass Tech (8-2), A: The Technicians whipped Warren Mott, 39-7, and will be a big favorite again this week when they host Dearborn Fordson (6-4).
- Lapeer (10-0), A: The Lightning held on to defeat Davison 36-24 and is expected to receive a more serious challenge when they host Romeo on Friday.
- Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (8-1): St. Mary’s rolled past Bay City John Glenn, 49-7, and now host Linden (8-2) in a Division 3 district final.
- Macomb Dakota (8-2), A: The Cougars defeated Utica Ford, 38-19, and will host Utica Eisenhower in a Division 1 district final. Dakota has defeated Eisenhower the last four times these MAC rivals have played. Dakota defeated the Eagles 21-14 in last year’s playoffs.
- Detroit Catholic Central (8-2), A: The Shamrocks muscled their way past Waterford Mott, 42-6, and now host a second consecutive playoff game against Novi (6-4) on Friday.
- Muskegon (8-2), A: Muskegon went to Traverse City Central and won, 40-14. Its game at Mona Shores this week is sure to be a classic.
- Northville (10-0), A: The Mustangs defeated Plymouth in yet another close game (24-20). Two weeks ago Northville defeated Plymouth, 23-20. Canton visits Northville this week in a Division district final.
- Zeeland West (10-0), B: West whipped Plainwell 48-0 and will host Benton Harbor (6-4) on Friday. The two schools have never met on a football field.
- Grand Ledge (10-0), A: The Comets cruised past Howell, 34-2, and now host another KLAA team, Brighton, in a Division 1 district final. Grand Ledge’s last district title came in 2005.
- Brighton (9-1), A: The Bulldogs avenged their only loss of the season as they defeated Hartland, 35-0. Now they travel to Grand Ledge.
- Romeo (9-1), A: The Bulldogs eliminated the two-time defending Division 1 champions, Clarkston, on Friday, 28-14. Romeo plays at Lapeer in a district final. The Bulldogs haven’t won a district title since 1992.
- Midland Dow (9-1), A: The Chargers defeated Midland 49-28 two weeks ago and defeated their rivals 42-7 in the first round of the playoffs. They’re at Fenton (9-1) this week.
- St. Joseph (9-1), A: The Bears defeated Sturgis 33-20 and will host Edwardsburg (10-0) in a Division 3 district final. It will be the first meeting on a football field between the two schools.
- Jackson (8-2), A: The Vikings held off Livonia Churchill, 42-35, for the program’s second playoff victory. Jackson hosts Livonia Franklin in a Division 2 district final.
- Hudsonville (7-3), A: The Eagles won a wild one last week (42-38 over East Kentwood) and will play at Rockford on Friday. Rockford defeated Hudsonville 28-27 two weeks ago. The Eagles have eliminated Rockford in a district final each of the past two seasons.
- Canton (8-2), A: The Chiefs dismantled Livonia Stevenson (70-35) for the second time this season. They play at Northville on Friday. The Canton-Northville series stands at 19-19.
- Detroit East English Village Prep (8-2), A: East English trailed Warren De La Salle 21-13 before rallying for a 25-21 victory. East English travels to Grosse Pointe South (7-3) in a Division 2 district final.
- West Bloomfield (9-1), A: West Bloomfield experienced yet another early exit (31-28 loss to Novi) but the Lakers did have the best regular season in school history.
- Utica Eisenhower (7-3), A: The Eagles have played their best football the last four weeks. They toppled Clinton Township Chippewa Valley, 23-20, in double overtime last week. They travel to Dakota this week.
- Birmingham Groves (10-0), A: The Falcons surprised many as they defeated Farmington Hills Harrison, 10-0, last week. They’ll be an underdog this week as they travel to W.L. Western. Groves has won two playoff games in one season once (2004).
